Veteran Bury striker Ryan Lowe is working with Football Association medical staff in a bid to get fit.
The 36-year-old, who is in his second spell with the Shakers, has missed the start of the campaign after suffering ankle ligament injury during pre-season.
The former Tranmere and Sheffield Wednesday forward is now spending time at the FA's St George's Park base as part of his recovery.
Manager David Flitcroft said: "He is down doing a week at St George's just to get some short-term rehab.
"The FA-run a support unit from there. They have all sorts of testing aids and facilities. Ryan has gone down there and is under their guidance for a week.
"The FA support that and have helped us out with that one. It's fantastic for Ryan to really submerge himself in work for the next week."
