Roberto Martinez believes Everton have two "very, very special" footballers when they play to the strengths of Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley.

The pair were in inspired form as the Toffees hammered Southampton 3-0 at St Mary's on Saturday.

Belgium striker Lukaku scored a first-half double while Barkley wrapped up the points with an excellent strike with five minutes remaining.

Everton finished in a disappointing 11th place in the Premier League last season but things appear to be back on track this time around and Martinez was also keen to praise the overall team performance.

The manager also dedicated the win to chairman Bill Kenwright, who had been the subject of a protest by some disgruntled Everton fans who flew a banner overhead at St Mary's calling for him and the board to leave.

"They were unplayable," Martinez said of Lukaku and Barkley. "When we play to their strengths, they are very, very special.

"But to see the best qualities of an individual you need a good team performance, so it would be wrong to highlight individual players too much.

Speaking on last week's Monday Night Football, Everton manager Roberto Martinez was full of praise for Ross Barkley

"Arouna Kone's contribution helped Ross and Rom to have the space they need and overall the team was perfect.

"It was a very exciting day because of that but it was a day when Bill Kenwright couldn't be here and this victory is for him."
