Norwich City forward Lewis Grabban has issued an apology after failing to turn up for the club's Capital One Cup victory at Rotherham while trying to force through a move to Bournemouth last month.

However, he will not be considered for Saturday's game at home to Bournemouth, having not trained for two weeks.

Grabban was hit with a fine and a suspension for breach of discipline after leaving the team hotel and failing to report for the 2-1 win at the New York Stadium on August 25.

The 27-year-old had looked on the verge of returning to former club Bournemouth during the transfer window, after making a series of attempts to re-sign the striker but The Cherries opted to complete a move for Glenn Murray from Crystal Palace instead.

"I've apologised to the manager, the staff and my fellow professionals for the situation that arose two weeks ago and for not being available for the game at Rotherham," Grabban said in a statement through Norwich's official website.

"I'd like to apologise to the club and most importantly the Norwich fans for my actions. Their support for me has been great since I joined and I really appreciate their passion for the club. The fans who travelled to Rotherham I especially apologise to.

"I've served a suspension and been fined, which I fully accept. Now I'm just determined to train hard and to let my football do the talking - and to do everything I can to help Norwich City do well."

Norwich manager Alex Neil says the club will move on after striker Lewis Grabban's apology

"He was suspended for two weeks and away from the club. He has now issued a public apology and the matter is now closed.

"At the moment he is training to get his match fitness up, and will continue to pay his dues until he works his way back into the squad so, as far as I am concerned, the matter is pretty much done."

Grabban scored 12 goals in 36 appearances for Norwich last season and could be in line to face Bournemouth on Saturday when The Cherries visit Carrow Road in the Premier League.
