Louis van Gaal says Manchester United are unlikely to be active in the January transfer window, and would not be drawn on speculation linking the club with Lazio's Felipe Anderson.
Lazio said on Saturday they have not received an improved offer from United for Brazilian Anderson, who said on Saturday he could quit the club before the end of January.
United had an offer rejected by Lazio in August, according to the Italian club's director of sport Igli Tare, and have yet to return with an improved proposal.
"We received their offer on August 27, but we rejected it," Tare told Mediaset Premium before Saturday's 3-1 win at Fiorentina. "Up until now we haven't received anything from Manchester United."
And Dutchman Van Gaal said after United's 1-0 win over Sheffield United in the FA Cup third round on Saturday that January moves are unlikely.
When asked about the Anderson bid rumours, Van Gaal said: "I cannot discuss that with you. I don't think we shall do business in January.
"But you cannot say that because when there is a chance to make the selection better, we shall do it, but I don't think we shall do that. But that is this moment."
Anderson came off the bench to strike late in the shock victory at title-chasing Fiorentina before telling Sky in Italy he is unsure if he will remain at the Stadio Olimpico beyond the January transfer window.
"I don't know, I'm focused on my job and on doing well here because it's not the best of times for me right now," said the Brazilian. I don't know what will happen."
