Highlights of the Sky Bet Championship game between Blackburn and Hull

Hull went top of the Championship with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday.

The Tigers broke the deadlock after a goalless first half through in-form striker Abel Hernandez, who rounded the keeper to score his 17th goal of the season.

The Uruguay international then unselfishly set up Mohamed Diame who made no mistake to secure all three points for Steve Bruce's side.

Sheffield Wednesday ran out comfortable 4-0 winners at Hillsborough against 10-man Brentford.

The Bees lost Yoann Barbet early on and went behind shortly after from a Fernando Forestieri header. Gary Hooper then doubled the Owls' advantage with a terrific half-volley from outside the area.

The former Norwich and Celtic man then turned provider for Kieran Lee for Wednesday's third before Lucas Joao grabbed a fourth in second half injury time. 

Three first half goals helped Fulham to a comfortable 3-1 victory over QPR in the day's early kick-off.

Ross McCormack opened the scoring with his 16th league goal of the season before Moussa Dembele headed in a second from six yards out. Tom Cairney then fired in a third shortly before half-time.

Highlights from the West London derby at Loftus Road as QPR took on rivals Fulham in the Sky Bet Championship.

Tjaronn Chery scored a late close-range consolation for QPR but it proved not enough to deny the Cottagers bragging rights in the West London derby. 

Burnley lost ground at the top of the table after being held to a 0-0 draw away at Reading.

Highlights from the Championship clash between Reading and Burnley

Andre Gray came closest to breaking the deadlock but saw his second half penalty saved by Royals goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi. The draw extends the Clarets' unbeaten run to eight matches. 

Elsewhere, Brighton stay in touch with the league leaders after beating Bolton 3-2 at home.

The home side took an early lead through Jamie Murphy but that strike was cancelled out by veteran forward Emile Heskey who smashed in a deflected effort from close range.

Chris Hughton's side restored their lead through Tomer Hemed who started and finished a flowing move but Jay Spearing brought the two sides level again.

Brighton hit back almost immediately through Beram Kayal and held out to secure their 15th league victory of the season.

Highlights from the Championship clash between Wolves and Preston

Preston made it two wins from two with a 2-1 victory away at Wolves.

Paul Gallagher put the visitors in front with his fifth goal of the season after lobbing Wolves keeper Carl Ikeme. Adam Reach doubled the Lancashire club's lead before Joe Mason pulled one back for the hosts.

Simon Grayson's side held out to move up to 11th in the division - 16 points clear of the relegation places. 

Charlton moved off the foot of the Championship after holding Cardiff to a 0-0 draw at The Valley.

Anthony Pilkington came closest to scoring after hitting the bar midway through the second half.

The away side, who remain five points off the play-off positions, finished the game with ten men after Sammy Ameobi was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Highlights of the Sky Bet Championship game between Rotherham and Birmingham

Rotherham had two men sent off but managed to hold Birmingham to a 0-0 draw in Neil Warnock's first game in charge of the club. 

The Blues dominated the match but were unable to make the most of their two-man advantage after Richard Wood and Joe Mattock were both sent off in the second half for the hosts.

Highlights from the Championship clash between Bristol City and Ipswich

Bristol City moved five points clear of the relegation places with a 2-1 win at home to Ipswich.

Lee Johnson's side took a deserved first half lead through a towering Aden Flint header. Flint then grabbed his second of the game with a carbon copy goal 10 minutes before the break.   

Substitute Brett Pitman restored the visitor's hopes at Ashton Gate with a smart turn and finish but the Robins held out to secure a vital win and in the process dent Ipswich's play-off hopes. 

Derby continued their poor run of form with a disappointing 1-0 defeat away at MK Dons.

The Rams, who started life under new manager Darren Wassall, struggled to create chances and were made to pay when Jake Forster-Caskey fired in a late free-kick for the away side.

Derby remain without a league win in 2016 and slip to sixth in the table whilst the MK Dons move five points clear of the relegation places.

Highlights from the Championship clash between Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield

Huddersfield ended Nottingham Forest's 13-match unbeaten run in the league with a 2-0 victory at the City Ground.

The Terriers took the lead after Matt Mills turned a Tommy Smith cross into his own net after quarter of an hour.

The hosts pushed for an equaliser but conceded a second late on when 19 year-old Phillip Billings fired in an unstoppable strike from 30 yards out to end Huddersfield's run of four straight defeats.
