Jose Riga will sit down with Charlton owner Roland Duchatelet to discuss his future after the Londoners' relegation was confirmed.

Failure to beat already doomed Bolton at the Macron Stadium ensured the fixture will be repeated in League One next season.

After a lifeless 0-0 draw, Riga said: "I will have a meeting to discuss everything, the future of Charlton and my future to see if we can find an agreement on the way they want and how I want to do the job."

In a statement, Charlton chief executive Katrien Meire said work would begin on plans for next season immediately.

"Everyone at Charlton Athletic Football Club is deeply disappointed that we have been relegated from the Championship," the statement said. "This is not the time for excuses.

"We apologise for our mistakes and now need to learn from them so that we can put firm foundations in place for the future that ensure the long-term stability of the club.

"We all acknowledge that this is a difficult time for the club, but I and the club's Senior Management Team will start the rebuilding work immediately. Our sole aim is to be fighting for promotion next season and our top priority is to put together a squad that can help Charlton Athletic get back into the Championship."

Riga said he had been disappointed by his side's performance at Bolton.

"The story of Charlton's season is not just the game against Bolton," he said. "But it's true I was expecting much better.

"The players are normally able to do much more. We have shown in previous games our performance was better even if we didn't get the deserving results...

Highlights of the Championship match between Bolton Wanderers and Charlton Athletic

"From the last 10 games we have played maybe eight of the top teams. We gave a lot of energy and certainly we saw the worst game since I have been with Charlton.

"We were not consistent in all aspects of the game. I am sure we would have seen another Charlton if we had managed to get the results previously."

Asked how tough it will be to jump back into the Championship at the first attempt, Riga added:"Everyone knows [League One] is a tough competition.

"The first thing is to make an assessment of the season to make sure we find the right solution for the future."

Bolton's first point since a 2-2 draw against Ipswich on March 8 was the first gained by interim boss Jimmy Phillips since replacing Neil Lennon.

Wanderers' hopes of naming a quick successor have dragged on with favourite Chris Wilder, the Northampton boss, reportedly withdrawing from the race.

"The one pleasing thing is we played a team who had to win and we had a young back four out," said Phillips. "And Charlton only managed a couple of shots on target.

"The down side was we were not creative ourselves though their keeper did make a great save from David Wheater.

"Young Oscar Threlkeld did well on his return to the club and showed he had benefited from his loan spell at Plymouth.

"But I know the players can play a lot more positive than we saw. And they have far more ability on the ball than we have perhaps seen."
