Giovani dos Santos produced another superb goal on Sunday to help LA Galaxy draw 1-1 at Sporting Kansas City, despite being having Ashley Cole sent off in the second half.

Brad Davis put Kansas City 1-0 up in the 30th minute, but 12 minutes later Gyasi Zardes found Dos Santos on a counter-attack and the Mexican attacker lofted a shot over charging Sporting goalkeeper Tim Melia.

It was Dos Santos' fourth goal in three Major League Soccer matches, a run of form that has seen him included in Mexico's preliminary 40-man squad for the 2016 Copa America Centenario.

Galaxy - whose 18 goals are the most in the MLS this season - will be happy to have escaped Kansas City with the draw after seeing Cole sent off in the 70th minute.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea defender received two yellow cards in the space of 32 seconds, the first for time-wasting on a throw-in and the second for an clumsy tackle on Benny Feilhaber.

"Some days are going to look like this," said Galaxy coach Bruce Arena, who had to make do without injured former England captain Steven Gerrard.

"To grind out and get a point here is important. We're pleased with that."

In Sunday's other game, Diego Valeri celebrated his 30th birthday by curling home a 25-yard free kick in the 74th minute, giving defending champions Portland Timbers a 2-1 home win over Toronto FC.

Portland's Fanendo Adi opened the scoring in the 17th minute with his seventh goal of the campaign before Timbers' captain Will Johnson equalized five minutes before half-time.
