Ahead of tonight's derby clash between Jose Mourinho's Manchester United and Pep Guardiola's Manchester City we take a look back at the history of the English Football League Cup.

The EFL Cup has had seven different names and three different trophy designs since being introduced in 1960 by Football League secretary, Alan Hardaker.

Liverpool are the competition's most successful club, having won the competition a total of eight times.

Ian Rush and Geoff Hurst share the record for most goals scored in the competition - both tied on 49 goals.

But how do you remember the competition? For many it will always be the Football League Cup, and for others it will be one of the seven previous incarnations of the competition.
