Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri is one of three remaining contenders for the FIFA men's coach of the year award.

However, the Italian faces some tough competition as he is up against Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane and Portugal boss Fernando Santos.

The trio remain after an initial shortlist of 10 was narrowed down by a voting process split evenly between national coaches, national captains, select members of the media and fans.

The winner will be revealed at a ceremony in Zurich on January 9.

Ranieri made the shortlist after guiding Leicester to the Premier League title last season, the Foxes defying odds of 5,000/1 to be crowned top-flight champions for the first time in his first campaign in charge.

Zidane also made a major impact in his first season as Real Madrid boss as they claimed the Champions League title as the Frenchman became the seventh man to win the competition as both a player and a coach.

However, Zidane has played down his chances of winning the award, saying: "I am getting better day by day and continue to learn. But maybe it is too early for me to be up there among the three nominees."
