There was a lovely touch on the weekend when Atletico Madrid’s oldest season-ticket holders walked out arm in arm with the players at the Vicente Calderon.
The La Liga club were entertaining Real Betis in the Spanish capital on Saturday night, but before the game got underway Atletico’s players and some of their longest-serving fans made their way on to the pitch in unison in what was a heart-warming moment.
“Clubs in Spain are always good at remembering things like this,” said Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.
“So you have the Real Madrid president meeting once a year with the oldest fans and telling them what is going on with the club and you will have gestures like this.
“I had not seen this done with Atletico Madrid before, but it is a good tradition in a year where they are changing completely and they are moving to the next level.
"Or at least another step in their history, because they are changing stadium, and a lot of things that could have made them forget where they came from and who helped them get there.”
