Eric Dier believes Tottenham can still pip Chelsea to win the Premier League

Eric Dier has brushed aside suggestions that Tottenham's FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea could have an impact on the Premier League title race.

Spurs saw their eight-match winning run come to an end on Saturday as they were beaten 4-2 by Chelsea at Wembley.

They will have to put the defeat behind them quickly as they go to Crystal Palace on Wednesday, a day after Chelsea host Southampton, with both games live on Sky Sports.

Asked about the impact of the FA Cup loss on the league, where Chelsea lead Spurs by four points, Dier told Sky Sports: "It's kind of irrelevant. It's a completely different competition, a different set-up as it's a knockout competition, and on the day they won and that's football.

"But it won't affect our momentum in the Premier League and won't be in our minds on Wednesday.

"Everyone is very disappointed and it's never nice to lose, especially an FA Cup semi-final, but there is no point dwelling on it. We have to look forward to a very important game.

If we want to do something special we need to have the attitude and belief that we can win every game.

"If we want to do something special we need to have the attitude and belief that we can win every game. We have had a fantastic run recently and we want to keep that going.

"We are very disappointed with Saturday but as a performance I don't think it was bad. We were good for most of the game and the result doesn't reflect the way we played. There are positives and we can keep moving forward."

Spurs are the form team in the Premier League having won their last seven matches in a row.

But Palace have also impressed, with wins over Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool in the last month giving their survival hopes a huge boost.

It's a heavyweight week of action this week on Sky Sports with three huge Premier League games

"They have had a fantastic run of form so I'm sure they will be very confident, especially at home, which is a very difficult place to go," said Dier.

"It will be difficult but we have to be confident we can go there and win.

"Every game is very difficult. Maybe on paper our fixtures look more difficult, but we have the belief we can win every game and it depends on ourselves. If we are mentally right, have the right attitude and are willing to give everything then we can win every game."

Dier also reflected on his team-mate Dele Alli winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award for the second season in succession.

Dele Alli would be a bigger loss to Tottenham than N'Golo Kante would be to Chelsea, according to Alan Smith and Paul Walsh

He says it was "strange" that Alli wasn't up for the PFA Player of the Year award, which was won by Chelsea's N'Golo Kante.

"To score the amount of goals he has at his age and the position he plays is phenomenal, I don't see why he shouldn't have been up for both awards and close to winning the other as much as he won the young player," he said.

"Kante justified winning PFA Player of the Year, but maybe Dele should have been in the running.

"He has improved massively and can still improve loads. He knows that and says that. The sky's the limit for Dele, it's how far he wants to go. I'm very excited to see how far he can go."
