Barrie McKay will not feature in Rangers' Europa League qualifier on Thursday, despite being named in the squad list submitted to UEFA earlier this week, according to Sky sources.

The winger is understood to have been told by manager Pedro Caixinha to train with the club's U20 squad amid increasing uncertainty over his future.

The 22-year-old, who has been capped once for Scotland, has a year left on his contract, but he was not a regular starter towards the end of last season following the departure of former manager Mark Warburton and the arrival of Caixinha.

McKay was reportedly the subject of interest from RB Leipzig in the January transfer window, and has also been linked in recent weeks with Nottingham Forest, where Warburton is now the manager.

McKay is one of a number of established first-team players at Ibrox who appear not to feature in Caixinha's long-term plans.

Midfielder Andy Halliday, who was left out of the 30-man squad for Rangers' first European tie in six years, is travelling today for talks with Azerbaijani side FC Gabala ahead of a potential season-long loan.

Wingers Michael O'Halloran and Harry Forrester, forward Joe Dodoo, defender Rob Kiernan and midfielder Matt Crooks were all absent from the squad list submitted to UEFA on Tuesday, and have also been training with the U20s.

On Monday, St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright publicly expressed his interest in bringing O'Halloran back to McDiarmid Park, but thus far there has been no official approach made to Rangers for the player.

Caixinha has made eight signings this summer, seven of whom were named in the European squad. Thursday's first leg of the tie against Progres Niederkorn of Luxembourg at Ibrox is already a sell-out.
