The winter transfer window does not open until January 1, but clubs across Europe are busy planning and tentative negotiations will have begun in preparation.

Italy

Inter Milan and Juventus are battling it out for the signature of Jose Gimenez, also a Liverpool transfer target.

The Uruguayan's contract expires in June meaning he's free to talk to clubs from January but reports in Spain claim he's extended his stay with Atletico Madrid until 2020. Inter are in the market for a long-term successor to Miranda. (Calciomercato)

Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar has dismissed reports linking him with a move to Barcelona, claiming he's fully committed the Serie A side: "I'm not interested in the market, I'm Inter and my goal is to play for Inter. I want to win it, I do not care about Barcelona." (Mediaset Premium)

Juventus are hoping it's third time lucky as they enter negotiations with Lyon over one of their midfielders.

The Serie A champions missed out on signing Maxime Gonalons (Roma) and Corentin Tolisso (Bayern Munich) last summer but are hopeful they can convince Lucas Tousart to join them at the end of the season. (Gazzetta dello Sport)

Spain

Neymar, the world's most expensive player, has a €500m (£445.5m) release clause in his Paris Saint-Germain contract. It leaves the door open for Real Madrid to bring the Brazilian maestro back to Spain in the future to replace Cristiano Ronaldo as the poster boy for the club. (AS)

Barcelona are keeping tabs on Mesut Ozil's contract situation. The La Liga leaders ideally want Philippe Coutinho but, if Liverpool refuse to sell the Brazilian playmaker, the Arsenal midfielder has been identified as an alternative. The 29-year-old is a free transfer in the summer and can open talks with clubs in January. (Mundo Deportivo)

Ahead of this weekend's Madrid derby, Real boss Zinedine Zidane has somewhat of an injury crisis with Keylor Navas and Gareth Bale still ruled out. Furthermore, Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Isco, Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic and Dani Carvajal are all 50/50. It couldn't have come at a worst time for the Los Blancos boss with pressure mounting after a poor run of form. (Marca)

Diego Simeone has picked his starting XI for the match against Real Madrid. The Atletico Madrid boss kept players behind to examine videos on Thursday after training it is believed these are the ones who will start the match: Jan Oblak; Juanfran, Stefan Savic, Diego Godin, Lucas Hernandez; Gabi; Angel Correa, Thomas Partey, Saul Niguez, Koke; Antoine Griezmann. Manchester United transfer target Saul Niguez has talked about how his time with Real Madrid prior to moving to Atletico helped him mature as a player, and as a man: "I experienced a series of bad things, but I believe any 11-year-old could have that happen to them. At the time, people started to talk of atrocities. My time at [Real] Madrid was good for me because it made me mature, grow and realise many things." (Marca)

Borussia Dortmund have had to discipline star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the second time inside 12 months. Peter Bosz's men are in a bad patch of form and the ex-Ajax manager needs everyone to be on the same page. It's why when Aubameyang turned up an 30 minutes late to the team's final training session before their match against Stuttgart tonight, Bosz had to punish him and drop him from the matchday squad. Bayern Munich have identified an alternative to Robert Lewandowski. The Polish forward is in fine form but can't be expected to play every single game and beyond him the Bavarian giants don't have a natural forward in their first-team squad. Hoffenheim forward Sandro Wagner is a Bayern Munich transfer target and they're even eyeing up a move for him in January. (Bild)

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Kevin Trapp has opened the door to a potential move away from the Parc des Princes this winter as he hopes to make the German World Cup squad: "I have to play regularly again," he said. "It is clear that I have to stay in goal if I want to go to the World Cup in 2018. I have not played PSG this season." (Sport1)
