Sheffield United midfielder Paul Coutts is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a fractured tibia.
Coutts has been one of the Blades' standout performers, starting 16 Sky Bet Championship matches for the club this season.
But he was taken off on a stretcher just before half-time in the Blades' 3-1 win after being hurt by a challenge from Burton striker Marvin Sordell.
The club released a statement on Saturday morning that read: "Sheffield United can confirm that Paul Coutts suffered a fractured tibia in Friday evening's victory over Burton Albion.
"He will have an operation over the weekend but is likely to miss the remainder of the season."
Blades boss Chris Wilder had earlier told Sky Sports News: "At this moment we are all quite subdued about the result.
"It's looks as if he's broken his leg. There's a picture flying about. It looks a nasty injury."
Wilder later told a press conference: "The players are a little flat. We should be jumping through hoops tonight, but we're not. Our thoughts are with Paul.
"Paul is a popular lad and we wish him all the best. He's off to hospital tonight.
"It should have been a penalty, but the bigger issue is Paul breaking his leg.
"It's a bitter-sweet taste, because we've produced an outstanding performance but we're all subdued."
