Lens to land Frau

Lens are set to sign Lyon striker Pierre-Alain Frau as their 'joker'.

French rules allow clubs in Ligue 1 to sign a player out of the regular transfer window and this is referred to as a 'joker'.

Frau has been linked with a move away from Stade Gerland for the last few months now after failing to break into Gerard Houllier's plans.

Marseille, Strasbourg, Nancy and Le Mans have all expressed an interest in Frau, but it appears Lens have won the race for his signature.

Lens have made their move for Frau as they are set to lose a number of stars when the African Cup of Nations gets underway in January.

Frau is expected to initially join Lens on loan with the view to a permanent move next summer.

Meanwhile, Jerome Leroy could be set to leave Lens.

The experienced midfielder has dropped down the pecking order at Stade Felix-Bollaert and Lens coach Francis Gillot is believed to be willing to let him leave.
