Former Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn has backed his successor Michael Rensing to make his name at the club.
The 24-year-old shot-stopper has been heavily criticised by the German press following Bayern's sensational 5-2 home defeat to Werder Bremen on Saturday.
However, Kahn believes his former understudy needs to be given more time to fulfil his undoubted potential.
"I have always said that if you decide to go with young players then you have to be prepared for a difficult phase or two along the way," he told Bild.
"It would be a big mistake to start questioning Rensing now.
"We could take Iker Casillas as an example. He started playing in goal for Real Madrid at a very young age and there were lots of people who doubted him.
"But Real kept faith with him and now he has won the European Championship and is one of the best goalkeepers in the world."
