Defender delighted still to be with Serie A leaders

Marco Materazzi has welcomed Inter Milan's show of faith after it emerged that they snubbed a number of January approaches for his services. The Italy international is approaching the twilight of his career, having tuned 35 in August, but remains one of the finest exponents of his craft. The former Everton man is renowned for his uncompromising approach to the game and continues to give his all every time he crosses the white line. It is that attitude which has attracted interest from a number of clubs looking to shore up their own backlines. However, Inter are reluctant to part with the World Cup winner and Materazzi has made it clear that he is happy to stay. "In truth I never had any doubts," he told his personal website. "There were teams that were interested in me and I waited to see what Inter did and eventually they spoke to me about the transfer window. "The directors did speak to clubs who had asked about the possibility of having me, but only to say I wouldn't be leaving Inter."
