Plymouth have completed the signing of Wales international Carl Fletcher on a free transfer after his release by Crystal Palace.
Midfielder Fletcher initially moved to Home Park on loan in February and helped Paul Sturrock's side retain their Championship status.
The 29-year-old has now put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal after being told he was no longer in Eagles boss Neil Warnock's plans.
Argyle boss Sturrock said: "Carl has great leadership qualities. He leads by example and has been the captain of Wales.
"I am delighted to have him at the club and look forward to him being an ever-present in the team next season.
"I tried to get him at the beginning of last season. He influenced the club when he came in February and, if I had managed to get him last summer, we would have benefited from that influence."
Meanwhile, midfielder Luke Summerfield has pledged his future to the Pilgrims by signing a new two-year contract.
The 21-year-old's current deal was due to expire this summer but he will now remain at Home Park until 2011.
Summerfield, who made his first-team debut on the final day of the 2004-05 season, progressed through the youth ranks at Argyle and has played 69 times for the club, scoring four goals.
