Crewe Alexandra have handed a trial to Wealdstone defender Carl Martin.
The 22-year-old, who operates at right-back or in midfield, has pitched up at Gresty Road in a bid to win a first professional contract.
Scout Neil Baker became aware of the player's potential via his contacts in the south and thus far he has impressed the Crewe coaching staff.
The League Two outfit are to assess him over the next week before deciding whether to offer terms.
Assistant boss Steve Davis believes the player has shown considerable promise with his confident displays in training.
Decent prospect
"The Academy at Crewe is very important for the future of the club, but it is also important that we continue to get out there and find those players who may have come into the game late but still have the ability and temperament to become a professional," he told the club's
official website.
"There will be players out there who may have been released at 16 or 18 and are now 21, 22, 23 and looking to get back into the league. Crewe have found these type of players in the past and we will continue to do so.
"Neil (Baker) used his contacts at Wealdstone to get the lad up here and we have invited Carl to have a look at him. He is quick and strong and has good tricks. He has been really positive with his attitude and hasn't sat back and let anyone get the better of him. He has been aggressive and determined to show us what he can do.
"He has put himself about and has been very positive in everything he has done. He is very athletic and comes with a high reputation because he has done well for Wealdstone over the last few years."
