Gillingham boss Mark Stimson remains hopeful of agreeing a deal with Northampton Town to bring Danny Jackman back to Priestfield.
Jackman left Gillingham for Northampton two years ago, but has asked to leave the Cobblers following the club's relegation to League Two.
His request has been turned down and the Cobblers have also rejected an offer from Gillingham for the 26-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
However, Stimson plans to continue with his interest in the defender and believes Northampton should look to accept an offer for Jackman.
"We thought we were close with the boy Jackman, but that's been stopped at the moment and we'll be going back first thing Monday morning to see if there is any movement on that," Stimson told Kent Online.
"We've gone in with a decent offer for someone of his age and for what he has left on his contract.
"All clubs will want more, but I understand the boy has put a transfer request in.
"They may be better off taking some money and moving on. I think he's a decent player for them, but I am led to believe that he doesn't really want to play in Division Two. He's too good."
