Wigan boss Roberto Martinez insists he has no problem with Paul Scharner and is keen to keep the versatile player at the club.
Scharner raised doubts over his future over the weekend after warning the club he could leave if he does not play in his preferred position of central midfield.
Martinez employed Scharner in central defence in Saturday's win against Aston Villa and the Latics chief says the Austrian will play where is best for the team.
"There hasn't been a disagreement at all," Martinez told Sky Sports News.
"It is true Paul can play in a couple of positions and as we have got other players that can do that, that is a huge strength for any squad and we are going to use that when we need it.
"The most important thing is the team and what is needed to try and be competitive against the opposition and Paul is prepared to do that.
"Paul is a perfect professional and he had an outstanding game on Saturday.
"He is a perfectionist, takes prides in everything he does and we want characters like that.
"He is the longest-serving player at this football club at the moment and that itself deserves a lot of respect.
"Paul is a very important player for our football club and is a player who can play in many positions, like many others, and that's a strength."
