Southampton boss Alan Pardew has urged Morgan Schneiderlin to stay at St Mary's and ignore the comments of his international boss.
France Under 21 coach Eric Mombaerts has called on Schneiderlin to leave the League One club in order to save his international career.
Premier League duo Fulham and Tottenham have been linked with the midfielder, who joined Saints last summer from Strasbourg.
Pardew is unhappy with Mombaerts' comments and believes it has put undue pressure on Schneiderlin's future with Southampton.
"The hard part for me as a manager is the international managers saying they won't be selected if they are playing in this division," Pardew told the Daily Echo.
"I think that's a terrible thing to say and I don't think it's fair. It's insulting.
"People like Morgan Schneiderlin feel under pressure, because they feel they need to move on.
"When an international manager adds credence to that, it's very difficult, but when the window closes, all the players will be able to focus on Southampton Football Club."
