Defender rejoins Addicks

Sam Sodje has returned for a second spell at Charlton after securing a deadline day deal. The 30-year-old defender joins the Addicks on a free transfer following his release by Championship outfit Reading. Sodje endured a disappointing time at the Madejski Stadium following a 2006 switch from Brentford. Having failed to hold down a regular spot with the Royals he was loaned out to West Brom, Charlton, Watford and Leeds. The Nigeria international is delighted to now be heading back to his London roots and is looking forward to getting reacquainted with the Valley. "It's something I feel is right," he said.

Right move

"I'm local to the area so Charlton is my club and I can't wait to get going. "I had a few other clubs interested but this move is the one that's right for me. I loved it here before. This club is in my blood." The Addicks have made the perfect start to the 2009/10 League One campaign, winning all five of their fixtures so far. Sodje is hoping to help Phil Parkinson's men continue that fine form, but accepts that it will take a considerable effort from all concerned to build on the impressive opening. "You need to be consistent in this league and that's what Charlton have done," he added. "But it's still early doors and five wins is just the beginning, we need to maintain it every week."
