New Tottenham Hotspur signing Niko Kranjcar does not consider himself to be a direct replacement for the injured Luka Modric.
Spurs swooped for the playmaker from Portsmouth on transfer deadline day following news of Modric's long-term absence with a fractured fibula.
It has been suggested Kranjcar is likely to fill the void left by his Croatian compatriot until he returns to full fitness.
But Kranjcar feels that once Modric makes his comeback the duo could play alongside one another under manager Harry Redknapp.
He said on Sky Sports News: "I am convinced both of us will prove that we will be able to play together and function on the pitch in the best way possible as we do when we play together for the national team."
Kranjcar joined Pompey from Hajduk Split in 2006 and made over 100 appearances for the South Coast club.
