Celtic manager Tony Mowbray wants to get to the bottom of Scott Brown's ankle problem.
Brown missed the start of the season after ankle surgery in the summer, but a problem flared up again during Scotland's win over Macedonia last week.
He played through the pain-barrier against Holland in midweek, but Mowbray is dissatisfied that the ankle has again become an issue and he intends to send him to a specialist.
"For all our peace of minds, we're going to have to get clarification on what the problem is," Mowbray said.
"It's dragging on too long. But by his nature he wants to play in every game and doesn't want to miss training.
"I've got a responsibility to the boy and I'll make sure his plight with his ankle is managed properly.
"If that means he needs to take a rest down the line, as that's what the advice is, I'll try to find the right way to do that.
"In the meantime I've got to balance the boy not wanting to miss a game, against us needing him in March if we're still in a very tight league race.
"We've been discussing with the physios that he will go and see someone, but I don't think he's actually booked in yet.
"It will be a specialist having a look to find out the best course of action.
"I'd rather have 100 per cent of Scott Brown for X amount of the season than have him at 75 per cent for the whole season."
