Mark Hughes had no complaints over referee Alan Wiley's performance as Manchester City drew 1-1 with Wigan at the DW Stadium.
However the City manager felt his side should have been awarded a certain penalty when Shaun Wright-Phillips was felled in the area by Maynor Figueroa in the second-half.
Hughes admitted that he was pleased with the result after Martin Petrov cancelled out Charles N'Zogbia's opener particularly after Pablo Zabaleta was sent-off for two bookable offences in the 64th minute.
The Welshman added that Wiley, who came in for considerable criticism from Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson last week after he described the official as unfit, had kept up with play well throughout the match.
"I thought it was a nailed-on penalty but in fairness to Mr Wiley he was right on the spot and had kept up with play," he said.
"He had the opportunity to make a good decision but maybe in his defence he though the defender had knocked the ball into touch when in fact it was Wright-Phillips.
"It was an obvious penalty but these things happen very fast. I have no criticism of Alan Wiley's athleticism today."
Happy with result
Given the fact his side went down to 10-men Hughes was pleased with the result and although he disagreed with the decision he could understand why Zabaleta was dismissed.
"Given the circumstances going down to 10-men it is always difficult but we stuck at it and we were disappointed to concede just before half-time because up till then I thought we looked quite comfortable in the first-half," he added.
"Obviously we got back on level terms and I thought we would go on to win the game but obviously the sending off changed our momentum.
"But we stuck at it and weren't to be denied and got something out of the game that maybe last year we wouldn't have been able to.
"I thought the first one was a little harsh both guys just clashed knees but the second one I don't think Pablo has touched the guy, the guy has hurdled his leg but obviously if your on a booking the likelihood if you go to ground is that you will get sent off and I can understand why he got sent off."
