Leicester City are in talks to sign former Tottenham star Edgar Davids.
Davids is available on a free transfer after his contract expired at Ajax in the summer.
The 36-year-old is believed to be keen on a return to England after enjoying two seasons at Spurs between 2005-07.
Portsmouth are also reported to be weighing up a move for the midfield dynamo, but Leicester are hoping to lure the Dutchman to the Walkers Stadium.
Foxes boss Nigel Pearson said: "When players become available, if they are the right players for us then we investigate it.
"There has been interest but after that I am not in a position to comment further. There is nothing to elaborate on at the moment.
"There has been interest in both directions, but whether it comes to anything is another story."
Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric confirmed that both parties were in discussion and added that the Championship club would have no problems meeting the former Holland international's wages demands.
"We are in conversation with Edgar and his agent at this point and that is all I can say," he told Sky Sports News.
"We are progressing and it is exciting and that's what our manager wants and our supporters want. We are not there yet.
"If we couldn't afford him we wouldn't be talking to him. We are a very ambitious club our supporters are very ambitious.
"We already have a competitive and talented squad and team but there is always room for improvement and our goal is to try and give it a go this year and try and get out (of the Championship) and people with that kind of profile like Edgar will probably help us."
Mandaric expected the deal to be concluded one way or another in the next few days and when asked whether Davids was in talks with other clubs the chairman responded: "Well I don't know to be honest but I would be surprised if he is."
Davids has enjoyed a glittering career after coming to the fore at Ajax in the early 1990s.
He has played for the likes of AC Milan, Juventus, Inter Milan and Barcelona before pitching up at Spurs and if Leicester can convince him to return to England he could be plying his trade in the Championship.
