Salomon Kalou believes Chelsea's comprehensive victory over Atletico Madrid proves they have learned from their mistakes at Aston Villa.
The Blues, who suffered a shock 2-1 reverse in the Premier League last Saturday after two uncharacteristic defensive blunders, brushed aside the struggling Spaniards to continue their 100 per cent record in UEFA Champions League Group D.
Kalou scored either side of the interval to set Carlo Ancelotti's men on their way, with Frank Lampard adding a third before Luis Perea headed into his own net in added time.
The Stamford Bridge side are now on the brink of qualifying for the knockout stages only halfway through their group campaign.
"It was very important to win that game because it gave us nine points," Kalou told Sky Sports.
"It's good to get confidence back by winning and everyone gave his best today and we have the result in the end.
"After the disappointment of last week [against Villa] we had the opportunity to show it was a mistake."
The Ivory Coast international was brought into the starting XI with compatriot Didier Drogba serving the final game of his European ban.
Kalou had not played for the Blues since the win over Apoel Nicosia last month and was pleased to get on the scoresheet after missing a number of early opportunities.
He added: "After not playing a couple of games, to come back into the team it was important for me to get confidence back by scoring.
"All the boys were saying after I missed the first opportunity, 'Don't worry about it, it will come', and I'm happy it came in the end."
