McDonald caps memorable day

Kevin McDonald says his leveller against Man City contributed to one of the best days of his life.

Clarets goal-hero hails one of the best days of his life

Kevin McDonald insists his late leveller against Manchester City on Saturday contributed to one of the best days of his life. The Clarets took a shock 2-0 lead at Eastlands thanks to goals from Graham Alexander and Steven Fletcher but City soon got themselves in front until McDonald latched onto a Fletcher knock-down to make it 3-3 on 87 minutes. The 21-year-old is yet to start a game for Burnley in the Premier League this season and had to wait until the final half an hour to get a taste of the action at the weekend. Despite his lack of starts the Scot is just delighted to be involved in the first-team and especially at claiming his first goal of the season. "It is one of the best days of my life so far," he said. "It was an unbelievable game just watching from the bench. To then come on and score, it doesn't get any better than that."

Spirit

Having secured their first away point of the season against City, McDonald is confident that the Clarets have the spirit, if not the millions, to avoid the drop. "We are written off by a lot of people - but coming to a place like this and getting a result sends out the message that we are here and wanting to stay in the Premier League," he added. "That is what we are aiming to do. The players in our dressing room might not have cost the same money as everyone else, but we can still pass and we have the same spirit. "We could have let our heads drop and felt sorry for ourselves. But we kept battling away and got our rewards in the end."
