Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has reiterated his interest in Sergio Aguero and Alexandre Pato, but does not expect to be active in the January transfer window.
Atletico Madrid forward Aguero, 21, and AC Milan striker Pato, 20, are arguably Europe's most-sought-after young duo and the Blues have been persistently linked with both.
There were rumours that Brazil ace Pato was set to follow Ancelotti from the San Siro to Stamford Bridge in the summer, while Argentine Aguero was touted as a £40million target.
Moves did not materialise, but Chelsea's manager, who will be denied the likes of Didier Drogba in the New Year due to the African Cup of Nations, is an admirer of the duo.
However, former AC Milan boss Ancelotti does not expect teams to part with their star players in January, telling Italian media: "Pato will stay with Milan.
"Aguero? All teams follow young talent and he is certainly one of them, like Pato."
Ancelotti is not planning for a lavish spending spree to maintain Chelsea's place at the top of the Premier League when the transfer market re-opens in 2010, despite a decision to suspend a Fifa transfer embargo.
He said: "We have the problem that some players will leave for the African Nations Cup. However, I think that even in January we will remain as we are."
