Striker undergoes surgery in Germany

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has undergone minor surgery after picking up a groin problem against Tottenham. The Denmark international was forced off towards the end of the North London derby at Emirates Stadium at the end of last month and has missed the last two games. He revealed earlier this week that he expected to have an operation and Arsenal have now confirmed the surgery went ahead in Germany on Tuesday morning. When the injury was sustained, Arsene Wenger announced that Bendtner would probably be kept out of action for around four weeks. The Gunners manager also admitted it was a major blow to lose a player who brings a different dimension and aerial threat to the team. "I played him against Tottenham because he is strong in the air," Wenger explained. "It gives us more variety in our games because we can lose possession, yet still win the next header with Bendtner. "He makes us dangerous at set pieces and so we can change our game a little bit."
