O'Driscoll denies De Laet bid

Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll says he has not made an offer to sign Man Utd's Ritchie de Laet on loan.

Rovers chief still keeping tabs on Kienast situation

Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll insists he has not made an offer to sign Manchester United youngster Ritchie de Laet on loan. O'Driscoll has been considering a foray into the loan market and recently watched United's reserve team, sparking rumours of an approach for De Laet. However, while O'Driscoll confirmed he did discuss the possibility of signing a player from the Premier League champions, Belgian defender De Laet was not the rookie in question. "We watched Manchester United reserves and there were four or five players that we would like," O'Driscoll told The Star. "We chatted to them about certain players - I don't think Ritchie was one of them; in passing, maybe - to see what the situation was, but that is as far as it goes. "With one of the players that we asked about there was a loan fee involved, which you can understand from Manchester United's point of view, but which was something that we couldn't afford."

Kienast interest

Meanwhile, O'Driscoll confirmed he is still keen on Austrian international striker Roman Kienast, who has recently been on trial with the Championship club. He added: "He'd give us something different, so he would add to the squad, but he wouldn't be able to play until the January window. "There is an interest, but nothing that we've acted upon because he's not available. "He's got one or two other options and he needs to see if anything comes to fruition. We've told him that we've got one or two people that we are interested in."
