Wales captain attracting Premier League interest

Ashley Williams could be set to become the third Swansea player to follow Roberto Martinez to Wigan. Jordi Gomez, who spent last season on loan with the Swans, and Jason Scotland both joined their former coach at the DW Stadium over the summer. They could be joined by defensive ace Williams, with the Wales captain the latest to be linked with a move to the Premier League. The Latics will face stiff competition for the 25-year-old's signature, though, with a number of top flight clubs believed to be keen on acquiring his services. Swansea boss Paulo Sousa is well aware of the mounting interest in his centre-half, and is reluctant to part with an key member of his side, but the Portuguese coach insists he will not stand in Williams' way should a suitable offer be received. "I don't have any doubts about clubs watching him," Sousa said in the Wigan Evening Post. "He can play in the Premier League, of course, as I recognise other players in the Premier League are not better than him. "I think of the players first, and if these things happen and it is good for him I'll be happy for him."

Outstanding

Sousa added: "He already has the quality to play in outstanding teams. "Ashley has grown a lot and has developed a lot as a player. But he has time to progress, be more consistent in his game and have more quality. "He is a player that wants to progress and I think he has not finished here. "He has a lot of chance to progress and get a lot of recognition because he is a fantastic boy and a fantastic player. "He is someone, in my opinion, that can achieve higher levels in his career."
