Chris Hughton has admitted that he could be tempted to swoop for Fabrice Pancrate after the Frenchman impressed for Newcastle's reserves.
The forward has been on trial with the Magpies for the past week and was handed a chance to shine when he started for the second-string against Hartlepool at St James' Park on Tuesday.
The former PSG man was released by the Ligue 1 club last summer and caught the eye as he laid on Newcastle's second goal for Phil Airey as the Toon ran out 3-2 winners.
Hughton was in attendance for the clash and was pleased with what he saw but stressed his coaching staff would monitor Pancrate's progress this week.
"He did well," Hughton told The Journal. "We really wanted to see him in a game, so we gave him the opportunity.
"He will be training with us for the next few days and that will give us a chance to have a real good look at him.
"We already have great quality on the right-hand side with Ryan Taylor, Jonas [Gutierrez] and Danny Guthrie, but he could offer us something different with his pace.
"His biggest asset is his experience - he's played in a couple of positions, is good on the ball, works hard and I enjoyed watching him."
