Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed the club are on the cusp of offering Tomas Rosicky a new contract.
The 29-year-old Czech Republic international recently returned to full fitness following an 18-month spell on the sidelines, but has suffered a fresh injury and will miss the game against Liverpool on Sunday.
Rosicky's injuries have meant he has failed to establish himself at the Emirates Stadium so far in his Arsenal career, but Gunners boss Wenger is still keen to extend his stay at the club.
"I want to extend his contract, so that shows you how patient I am (with him)," he said.
"I look first for the quality of the player, at his attitude and at his leadership.
"The injuries can happen to anybody. Tomas is not responsible for what happened to him.
"At the moment he has small setbacks which keep him out for eight to 10 days, but once he can regularly play again, he will come back to his normal level."
Rosicky has made 14 appearances for Arsenal so far this season and he will want to return to action in order to help his team over the busy Christmas period.
His current contract expires at the end of the campaign and his agent has recently hinted at a new two or three-year deal.
