Shane Lowry is waiting for Aston Villa to decide on his short-term future ahead of a possible return to Plymouth Argyle.
The defender's three-month loan at Plymouth expired after Saturday's defeat by Coventry City, but he is wanted back at Home Park in the New Year.
New Pilgrims boss Paul Mariner is hoping to re-sign the 20-year-old on loan and is set to hold talks with Villa regarding a deal.
Lowry is unsure whether he will head back to the Championship's bottom club, but he confirmed he wants to go out on loan again in the second half of the season.
"I don't have a clue, to be honest," Lowry told the Herald.
"I don't think it's any secret Plymouth would like to extend my loan. I have had a word with the gaffer and he wants me to stay.
"I put my views across to him as well but, at the end of the day, it's between Plymouth and Villa. It's not down to me.
"I don't make these decisions. But I would like to go out on loan again and play more games.
"Villa are fourth in the Premier League at the moment so I have got to be realistic. I'm not going to be playing for them.
"Getting games with Plymouth has done me the world of good."
