Birmingham boss Alex McLeish is hopeful Roger Johnson and Liam Ridgewell will be fit to face Chelsea on Boxing Day.
The duo have yet to train this week after picking up their respective knee and ankle injuries in Sunday's 1-1 draw at Everton but McLeish has backed them to return.
He said: "They have not trained so far but should join in on Thursday. We are probably looking to field an unchanged side against Chelsea.
"Roger has been magnificent since coming here from Cardiff and Liam has looked a natural since moving from centre-back to left-back."
Blues have amassed 21 points in a nine-game unbeaten run and while McLeish is delighted with the progress his side have made, he admits they are not yet at the level to challenge city rivals Aston Villa for a place in the top four.
"I have sensed a buzz around the city for the last few weeks. We have been getting good plaudits from day one. We have earned the right to be where we are," he added.
"But can we compete with Aston Villa? I am sure (owner) Carson Yeung would like to have that ambition but right now we are not at Villa's level in terms of spending power and the strength of the squad.
"I am not looking to rival Villa this season. We have got to look after ourselves and try and keep this unbeaten run going."
