Bayern Munich have effectively confirmed striker Luca Toni will be back in Serie A in January after wishing him good luck on his return.
The Italian hit-man has endured an acrimonious first-half to the Bundesliga season after falling out with Dutch head coach Louis van Gaal.
Bayern were so keen to facilitate his exit in the New Year they revealed they would be willing to let the former Fiorentina striker leave the club for free.
Roma have been heavily linked with a move for his services, but while an official deal has not been announced Bayern president Uli Hoeness has wished him good luck.
"I wish Luca all the best in Italy," Hoeness told the Munchner Merkur.
"I hope he now plays an excellent second half of the season with Roma and scores lots of goals so that he can go to the World Cup and then earn a longer contract with them."
