Dedryck Boyata has expressed his delight at making his Manchester City debut against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.
The Belgium Under 21 international was a surprise inclusion in City's line-up as new manager Roberto Mancini was without a host of regulars.
With Kolo Toure on African Cup of Nations duty and the likes of Nedum Onuoha, Joleon Lescott and Wayne Bridge injured, Boyata was given his chance.
Boyata was initially upset at getting the call as he was due to fly home over the festive period, and he did not even have time to let his friends and family know of his news.
The 19-year-old could even find himself involved in the Carling Cup semi-finals against Manchester United should he retain his place at the back on Wednesday.
"I was due to fly home but then I was told I had to stay back so I was a bit upset at first," he told City's official website.
"But I have been training with some fantastic players every day since, and now to make my debut is a fantastic feeling.
"I did not have the chance to ring anyone before the game and I did not really want to hear them at that point.
"But I made sure I texted them so all my family know I have played. I spoke to my dad right after the game and they are all delighted for me."
