Scottish ace to join Wigan

Gary Caldwell has snubbed a move to link up with Gordon Strachan at Middlesbrough, Sky Sports News understands. Caldwell was set to be one of four Celtic players to sign for Boro, along with Barry Robson, Willo Flood and Chris Killen. He underwent a medical on Monday and had agreed a three-and-half-year deal. However, the Scottish international defender now looks set to have opted for a move to Wigan instead. Caldwell held talks with Roberto Martinez over the weekend and that looks to have convinced him to switch to the DW Stadium. The lure of Premier League football looks to have been the deciding factor behind Caldwell's decision. Boro are now set to hold talks with Celtic as they have to renegotiate terms for Robson, as the previous deal also included Caldwell. Boro are set to land Flood and Killen on permanent deals, rather than loans as previously thought.
