Schalke have agreed terms with Mainz defender and former player Tim Hoogland on a return to the club this summer. The 24-year-old was a youth player at the Royal Blues and will make his return on a free transfer after his contract runs out at the end of the season. German Hoogland, who is uncapped, became captain of Bundesliga side Mainz after his arrival in 2007 and admits the lure of his hometown team was too hard to resist. He told Schalke's official website: "I had some offers from other clubs, which did not induce me to change clubs simply because there were many very good arguments for (staying at) Mainz. "Mainz was the best thing that could happen to me. But Schalke is my homeland club. I simply had to take notice of this opportunity."
