Bolton have offered MLS star Stuart Holden a trial in a bid to fend off interest from Blackburn and Burnley.
The Houston Dynamos midfielder spent time with the Clarets before their FA Cup tie with MK Dons last week but decided to switch to the Reebok when he became aware of Owen Coyle's plans to take over at Bolton.
The 24-year-old has reportedly been offered a four-year deal by Blackburn, with former Trotters boss Sam Allardyce a known admirer.
The Aberdeen-born America international is hoping to become Coyle's first signing at Bolton, four years after he left Sunderland as a trainee.
Holden has been capped 12 times by the USA, scoring two goals, and is keen on a move to the Premier League after allowing his contract with Houston to run down.
