Steven Davis believes Kyle Lafferty is more than capable of providing the necessary firepower to keep Rangers on top of the Scottish Premier League.
Lafferty has been drafted into the firing line in the absence of strike duo Kenny Miller and Kris Boyd ahead of Saturday's trip to Hamilton.
With Miller suspended and Boyd out with a hernia problem, the young striker is expected to switch positions and play down the centre - a move which should suit his attacking style of play.
Davis believes Lafferty can rise to the challenge and help the Gers maintain their top-of-the table status.
He insists, having seen his fellow countryman perform so well in that position for Northern Ireland, that the talented youngster should have no problems adapting to the role.
"The big man has been banging on about playing up there. So if he gets his chance now, he will have to take it," he said.
"I know what he's capable of because he does it for Northern Ireland on a consistent basis and I think that's why the manager signed him, on the back of those performances for his country and for Burnley.
"He's had a bit of an unsettled season but hopefully after getting a couple of goals at the end of last year to get him off the mark, he can kick on from there and start performing to the best of his abilities."
Davis is hoping to show his own goalscoring abilities at Hamilton having failed to find the net so far this season.
The midfielder saw his goal against Dundee United count for nothing when the game was abandoned and missed a golden opportunity to notch his first this season with a missed penalty in the UEFA Champions League clash with Unirea Urziceni.
"It has been frustrating this season because I've had a few opportunities and none more so than the penalty against Unirea," he said.
"It just hasn't happened for me but the most important thing is that the team is winning and at the moment that has been the case.
"Hopefully, I can get one sooner rather than later though and kick-start my season from that point of view."
