Skysports.com understands Burnley had lined up a move for Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Lee Grant prior to Owen Coyle's departure.
Coyle was keen on bringing Grant to Turf Moor to bolster his goalkeeping options before his departure to Bolton.
Grant's future at Hillsborough has been the subject of speculation with the club possibly open to offers for the keeper to raise funds for their own transfer plans.
The former Derby County shot-stopper is regarded as one the best young keepers outside the top flight and has been linked with the likes of Tottenham in the past.
It remains to be seen if Coyle will rekindle his interest in Grant now he is at Bolton, but Burnley are thought to be still keen on the 26-year-old.
New Clarets boss Brian Laws could step up the club's interest as he is known to be a big admirer of the keeper from his time working with him in South Yorkshire.
Laws could now make a bid to test Wednesday's resolve to hang onto Grant as he prepares to reshape the squad at Burnley.
