Hearts boss desperate for captain to stay

Csaba Laszlo has urged the Hearts hierarchy to do their best to secure Michael Stewart on a new long-term contract. The club's captain, who notched his eighth goal of the season in their 1-0 win over St Mirren, is out of contract in the summer. Laszlo believes the 28-year-old is one of the team's most important players and is against losing his services on a free transfer. The Romanian has passed on his thoughts to the club and now hopes they act on his advice and dish out new terms.

Suggestion

"I have given my suggestion to the club and now hope people see Mike is not just the captain, but one of the most important players in the team," said Laszlo. "I think Mike is a guy not just from Edinburgh, he is a guy from Heart of Midlothian. He stays behind this club and does everything that is possible. "This person is crucial for the future. It's not my job to talk about this. I give my plan and hope everything will be okay in this direction." Meanwhile, Laszlo is unsure whether he will have any fresh faces available to face Rangers this weekend, although he does not mind providing they can maintain their winning run. "I don't know if we will have any new players in before the game," he continued. "What is important is we win and if I have a new player I must see what condition he is in."
