Scott Brown's future at Celtic is in doubt after he was reportedly told he did not figure in Tony Mowbray's plans at Parkhead.
Brown, who is back in training after a long-term ankle problem, is believed to have held showdown talks with Mowbray about his future in December.
Mowbray is reported to have informed the former Hibernian ace that he was prepared to sell him during this month's transfer window.
Brown was remaining coy on talk that he could leave Celtic this month, but admitted he had held talks with Mowbray about his future.
"Yes, there was a conversation between myself and the manager, but I am not prepared to go into details," Brown told the Daily Record.
"I believe these things should remain private. Maybe you should ask him what was said. I have nothing more to add."
The news is sure to fuel speculation that Brown could be on his way to England with the likes of Birmingham and Tottenham thought to be long-term admirers of the Scotland international.
New signingMeanwhile, Celtic are understood to be closing in on the signing of Norwegian defender Thomas Rogne.
Rogne has been training with Celtic for the past week and he is set to arrive on a free transfer after seeing out his contract at Stabaek.
Mowbray revealed after his side's Scottish Cup win over Morton that the club are close to announcing a signing, but refused to reveal the identity of the player.
It is thought highly-rated defender Rogne is the player in question and the 19-year-old will be unveiled later on Wednesday at a scheduled press conference.
"I can't say who the player is, you'll just have to wait and see," said Mowbray..
"It's not a player who will come in and make an immediate impact, sometimes you need to get players who take some time.
"We're trying to build something at this club and there are times when you need to sign players who take time to develop."
