Roberto Mancini is said to be keen on bringing Adrian Mutu to Manchester City according to the player's agent Ioan Becali.
The Fiorentina striker has endured a difficult few months since being ordered to pay more than €17million to former club Chelsea for breach of contract in May.
The 31-year-old lodged appeals to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and Fifa but both proved unsuccessful, forcing the Romanian international to launch another appeal, this time to the Swiss Federal Court.
Many predict that Mutu will look to leave Fiorentina in January, with West Ham previously linked last month, in the hope of securing a better contract elsewhere in case he does have to pay back a large proportion of the fine.
"There are several teams interested in Adrian," Becali told cancan.ro.
"That would give him a salary of about €4million. I've received calls from Turkey and Russia, but especially there is Mancini who wants him at Manchester City.
"Mancini said that Mutu would be an ideal player for him. It remains to be seen if Fiorentina will be available to talk."
Becali continued stating that Mutu would likely cost around £8-10million and insisted that a deal could go right up to the deadline.
"In last days of the market anything can happen," he declared.
"Seven years ago, the last market day I did Mutu from Parma to Verona. If don't arrive the substantial proposals we shall discuss with Fiorentina for a contract renewal of two years with an increase of salary."
While Mutu's agent claims strong interest from Mancini in the player, City have gone on record as saying they are not pursuing a deal for the Romanian.
