Boothroyd determined to keep defender

Colchester boss Aidy Boothroyd hopes to persuade Marc Tierney to sign a new deal with the club. Skysports.com revealed earlier this week that the defender was attracting interest from several Championship sides. Boothroyd is determined to keep Tierney at Colchester as he has been impressed by the full-back's recent performances. Tierney still has plenty of time left on the contract he signed a year ago but Boothroyd has already spoken to him about an extension. "It's interesting that this story came out," the manager told Colchester's official website.

Grounded

"I had sat down and spoken to Marc on Tuesday and said that, despite the recent results, I thought he was one of the players that had done well and that I wanted to sit down and extend his contract. "I have seen the speculation surrounding Marc but I don't get sucked in by all that stuff. "Marc is a player that I think a lot of, because I think he's come a long way in a short space of time. "He's a lot more emotionally grounded now and plays the game rather than the occasion."
