Cobblers defender allowed to go on loan to former club

Chris McCready has joined former club Tranmere on loan until the end of the season in a bid to play first-team football. The Northampton defender has started just 13 times in League Two since signing from Crewe in the summer. Things have turned sour for the 28-year-old at Sixfields recently having not featured for the Cobblers since the 2-1 defeat at Aldershot in November. Northampton manager Ian Sampson believes the move will be good for McCready, with the versatile stopper having spent the 2006/07 season with the League One side. "This is a good move for Chris and will give him the chance to play some good football," Sampson said. "The good form of others in the squad have limited the opportunities for Chris lately and he needs to be playing football. "Hopefully he will get that and help Tranmere out at the same time. He knows the area and knows the club and I hope the move will work out well. "With Luke Wilkinson coming in I feel this move gives Chris a better chance of getting some football under his belt as his chances here may have been limited for the rest of the season."
