Martin O'Neill admits that left-back Stephen Warnock is a doubt to feature in Wednesday's crucial Premier League clash with Arsenal.
The former Blackburn defender departed Saturday's FA Cup win over Brighton early with a shin injury and was replaced by Curtis Davies.
O'Neill admits the 28-year-old defender has been resting up and that it is touch and go whether he recovers in time to face The Gunners.
Should Warnock miss out then Luke Young is likely to feature at left-back with Habib Beye moving to the right side with Richard Dunne and James Collins pairing up in the middle of Villa's defence.
Wait and see
"Warnock has been sore for a little while. He wanted to go again (against Brighton) but he's played a lot of games for us," said O'Neill.
"Ideally I wouldn't have minded him not playing, but at this minute Nicky Shorey is on loan at Forest and, even if he came back, would have been suspended at the weekend.
"Stephen is a great lad who would play when a lot of other players wouldn't risk it as much so we'll have a look at things.
"He will try and rest up for a day or two and see how he is for Wednesday.
"Stephen doesn't remember getting hit on the shin but our doctor seems to think he probably has at one stage or another and it's really irking him."
